As people progress in their lives, usually they begin to want to understand and become closer to God. When they were young, life was new and exciting and there were many demands on their time. Getting an education, meeting your spouse, raising a family, and having a career.
But as you get older, and one by one each of these duties reach their ending points, you find yourself having alot of free time, and feeling your own mortality.
This is not to say that when you were younger God was not that important, because for a few people God has been important from day one, and they have structured their lives around Him accordingly.
These would be the youth that don't drop out of church when they leave the parental home, the ones who put their own children in Sunday School, and those who have some sort of moral standard that they adhere to for themselves and for their growing families.
But the majority of people seem to be living their lives without any dependence on God at all. UNTIL a crisis occurs and then all of a sudden He becomes very important. All of a sudden they are praying to Him, and asking favors and making bargains.
The crisis could be a divorce, or a sick child, or the death of a loved one, or an accident, or a financial loss, or a brush with terrorism and you loose someone to war, etc.
It seems that we want nothing to do with God when things are going smoothly, in fact some of us even act like He does not exist. But when tragedy strikes, all of a sudden he becomes very REAL.
This is when people begin to become very introspective about life and the life beyond. They begin to HOPE and to BELIEVE that there might really be an invisible, spiritual world, beyond this visible, physical one. And they hope and believe that when they die they will be going to that invisible, spiritual world.
If you are struggling with a spiritual issue that you need help with, please send your thoughts and questions to me in a Long Question or a Short Question form, and one by one I can help you to understand and to draw nearer to God.
