Hope
God, make me brave for life: oh, braver than this.
Let me straighten after pain, as a tree straightens after the rain,
Shining and lovely again.
God, make me brave for life; much braver than this.
As the blown grass lifts, let me rise
From sorrow with quiet eyes,
Knowing Thy way is wise.
God, make me brave, life brings
Such blinding things.
Help me to keep my sight;
Help me to see aright
That out of dark comes light.

Depression can be a very debilitating experience that can bring people to the brink of despair. But it is encouraging to note that most depression can be helped by understanding the causes of the depression and changing our environments if they are negative.

There are several types of depression that can occur. There is the type of depression that comes on because of some outside external event, such as the loss of a loved one, a relationship ending, a financial setback, a terminal illness, a disability, or the loss of a job. Such depression under these circumstances is very normal and when events change, the depression usually goes away.

Another type of depression comes on for no good reason. Everything is fine in someone's life, their relationships are fine, there are no financial problems, all of their needs are being met, etc. and yet they are depressed. In this case, the cause is usually a chemical imbalance that can be rectified with medications, so a good health checkup is in order.

There are many and varying reasons for finding one's self depressed and if you find yourself feeling this way for more than two weeks then you need to consult a counselor and your doctor.

There is always hope and help out there if you will have the courage to ask for it.
God promised that He will not give us more than we can bear.

God promises us that He will never give us more than we can bear, and with it he will give us a way of escape. (1 Corinthians 10:13.)  " No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.  And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."
Many times people do not realize that they can escape from whatever is negative in their lives. But we do not always recognize the "escape" that God has provided.

It could be something as simple as changing jobs, or removing toxic people from our lives, or  moving to a better climate, or ending an abusive relationship.
People make a change when the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of changing."

Sometimes, all that is needed is the courage to do something differently. When you keep doing the same thing over and over again, and you keep getting the same results, it is time to make a change. Actually when you do the same thing over and over again, and keep getting the same negative results, some have called this the definition of "insanity."

We need to put our energies on things that DO WORK, not things that don't.

If you find yourself unable to sleep, or unable to function during the day, because you have lost interest in life, and find no joy in living, then it is time to make some changes and reach out for help.
What does God say about depression???

We may experience  some tough situations, but we can avoid deep depression. In 2 Cor. 4:8-9 God states:  "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair,; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed."

And depression, while seeming to be accomplishing nothing but pain and sadness, according to God is accomplishing  something in the invisible world in spite of how we feel in physical world.

2 Cor. 4: 16-18.  " We do not loose heart.  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an internal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
